Notes of an Egyptian American: Life in Post-WWII Cairo

Notes of an Egyptian American chronicles the life of Tanya Rentz growing up in a traditional Coptic family in Cairo, Egypt and emigrating to Palo Alto, California in 1963. She navigated the turbulent 1960’s with some grace, graduated from Henry M Gunn High School, entered Stanford University for 1 year, then took off for Arequipa, Peru with friend Janet Ewing. They taught English there, & worked with the nuns in the barrios, then embarked on a 3 month tour of South America. Upon returning to California & Stanford, & surviving a suicide attempt, she joined other college students in building Gary Snyder’s house in the Sierra Foothills. Holistic nutrition for everyone but unique in its approaches to a person’s individual health concerns or needs.
